Tips and Tricks: July

A surprising project using my theme of the month ‘A trip to the zoo’

Today, I'm thrilled to share an exciting artistic adventure with you - something I really didn’t think I would enjoy - graphite drawing. And what better subject to dive into than the captivating and elusive creature known as the binturong? So, grab your pencils, buckle up, and get ready to unleash your drawing skills.

But before we embark on this artistic expedition, I want to let you in on a little secret: creating art is all about having fun and expressing yourself. Don't worry about perfection or comparison to others. This adventure is all about embracing your unique style and enjoying the process.

To truly immerse yourself in this experience, I highly recommend watching the accompanying video, where you'll witness every stroke and shading technique up close. You’ll see me make mistakes, edit things and alter aspects throughout the whole process, that’s the joy of using a pencil - you can change your mind.

Now, let's meet our star of the show — the binturong. Also known as the "bearcat," this elusive creature with its prehensile tail and captivating gaze is an absolute joy to draw. Through this project, we'll capture its essence and bring it to life on paper, on my last trip to the zoo, I spent ages observing this unusual creature and trying to get to know it a little better.

Please note, there is no audio for this video, just lovely relaxing music for you to enjoy.

See you soon, Ali
